Feist – The Reminder

Before I get started let me preface this critique by stating that I am well qualified for this role as a life long listener of music, mostly 80’s rock as well as being a highly trained musician. In 3rd grade I mastered the recorder, a complex musical instrument in its own right. Mrs Anderson, my teacher said and I quote “you are good”. That statement was a prophetic word that now propels me into this new avenue to develop my creative giftings as I share with the world musical insights on a level never yet seen.

I am excited to kick off my career as a musical critic with a review of “The Reminder” by Feist. Leslie Fiest probably needs to change her name to Leslie “Fast”, because that’s exactly what I have done since first listening to this CD. I haven’t eaten in weeks due to the trauma I suffered as a result to this CD. “The Reminder” attempts to be eclectic but ends up being schizophrenic. She reminds of an old girl friend, a pleasant girl at the beginning but rapidly became a psychotic wacko never knowing what you were going to get. I’m all for different genre’s of music, but come on; going from nursery rhymes to suicidal dronings is more than anyone could bear. The only good part about my “Fast” and not eating for weeks was that it reminded me of my high days as a wrestler and the greatest movie of all time, Vision Quest starring Matthew Modine. If you want real music go out and buy that soundtrack. When you put Journey, Foreigner and Dio on one album you have an instant hit.

There are a few mildly amusing songs on the CD highlighted by “I Feel It All”. The only redeeming quality of Leslie Fiest is her similarities at various times when she sounds like Chrissy Hynde. This 80’s rocker was a female giant in her era with her band called “Chrissy Hynde and the Pretenders”. If Fiest wants to make it big I suggest she kick the eclectic musings to the curb and embrace the rocker within her, until then it’s a “fast”.

Overall “The Reminder” was a huge disappointment. Using the Get Lost in Music ranking system, Feist gets ¾ of a chicken bowl on a scale of 1-5 chicken bowls. If your suicidal this is the perfect CD for you, if not hit the classic rock section at any music store and get on with life.

3/4 Chicken Bowl (out of 5)
